Jackson Social and Field Club

History

Jackson Social and Field Club circa 1903
Woodside, New York 11377
The Jackson Social and Field Club was established by 13 members of the Jackson Baseball Club of Woodside in 1902. It received it's New York State charter in 1902.

The Club first meeting at the building was held in 1900 to discuss the formation of the Club. These meetings are still held today to discuss important Club business. Minutes were kept of these meetings and many of them still survive dating back to 1903. These minutes can be viewed at the Club. An important Club decision in the early 1900's was that at that time it cost a nickel donation to sit in a poker game. If a person left and came back later in the day did that nickel still count towards admission into the game. It was decided that it did. Important decisions like this still occur to this date.

The original rent was twelve dollars. In 1919 the building and lot was bought from The Cord Meyer Company. Renovations have been done in and out of the Club and it still needs plenty of more but funds are low. One particuliar renovation was the building of the world famous bar. This bar was constructed out of brick and wood from a casket. Over the years much of the intellectual conversations that go on in the Club are held over this bar.

Below is a picture of the Club as it currently looks. As you can see much remodeling has been completed.

The current President of the Club is DJ Nolan. It now consists of about twenty five members.
